Those are the words of Tom and Dom who run the hugely successful “Bantams Banter” podcast. The pair are regularly commentating on Bradford City at Valley Parade and their style and comedic insights provide regular entertainment for all football fans across the UK.
A favourite video of mine on their YouTube channel would have to be the famous win for Bradford over Chelsea at a stunned Stamford Bridge. The video of their hilarious reactions to the win can be found here!
I caught up with the pair over the weekend about their thoughts for the upcoming season and whether City can bounce back from play-off final heartbreak against Milwall last season.
Their thoughts on Bradford’s chances of promotion this season……..
“It’s another pre-season of big change for City, a lot of players out and a lot of new faces in. But the management and owners have their heads screwed on and have already made some great signing, spending money and showing real intent…of course this is no guarantee of success…but I’m confident.”
On whether Stuart McCall is the right man to take the club forward……
100% – Stuart McCall worked wonders last season. It’s different for him compared to his first because we have very hands on owners…but Stuart brought exciting passing football back to VP last season; this season I expect more of the same and more!
Which player will be the key to the success of the team this year???
Charlie Wyke. When he came in from Carlisle in January he hit the ground running and carried on his goal scoring form. He dipped off towards then end of last season but the lad can play and the lad can score and I’m looking forward to seeing him get a full season under his belt.
Which youngster are we likely to see pushing for a place in the first team this season???
Daniel Devine. We saw a bit of him last season and he looked brilliant so I’d expect to see lots more of him soon. He’s the one to watch.
Are you pleased with the attacking options compared to previous seasons?
Last season scoring was a bit of an issue for us, so bringing in some fire power was key – it’s shaping up nicely I think, Wyke and Jones are talented players add to that McCarten and we have a formidable front line with decent back-up in Poleon and Taylor…I think we’ll see plenty of goals next season.
On who could be the missing piece to the jigsaw in the team this year?
This could be a very long list…Jake Reeves at AFC Wimbledon is a great young midfielder who I’d love to see at City. Last season we had Josh Cullen on loan from West Ham…he was incredible and sadly beyond our reach as a permanent signing but somebody in his mould would be nice!
And finally….. Do you think we could see Bradford return to the top flight anytime soon???
One step at a time. The Premier League was nice, but it wasn’t all that; then again, it brings in the money and the big name players… I’d like to see us competing in the Championship again soon, beyond that who knows.
